100 Years of Serving God
1924-2024

This congregation has always relied upon, depended upon, counted on God’s grace.  One can count how many pastoral leaders there have been (24) or one may count how many members are included in a membership list;  or one may count how many baptisms, funerals, confirmations, weddings, or other acts of love and mercy and service have been accomplished.  Our hope is that we count not on our own accomplishments, strength or understanding, but rather that we count ourselves fortunate and blessed to have known a God who calls us, renews us, and leads us, not just for 100 years, but 100 centuries and beyond!

What Does It Mean to be Lutheran?
A Brief Overview

Lutherans are Christians who have been shaped the teachings of Martin Luther (1483 – 1546) and others. Luther was a German theologian who, along with other church leaders, realized that there were significant differences between the Bible and the practices of the Roman Catholic church at that time. On October 31, 1517, he posted a challenge on the door of Wittenberg University, titled “95 Theses” (to debate 95 theological issues). The hope of Luther and the Reformers was that the church would reform its practice and preaching to be more consistent with the Word of God as contained in the Bible.

What started as an academic debate escalated into a distinct separation between the Roman Catholic church of the time and the reforming bodies of the church.

Some of the guiding principles of Lutheran Christians are:

  • We are saved by the grace of God alone -- not by anything we do

  • Our salvation is through faith alone -- a confident trust in God, who in Christ promises us forgiveness, life and salvation

  • The Bible is the norm for faith and life -- the true standard by which teachings and doctrines are to be judged
